Editing Services

I provide copyediting for therapists, counselors and psychologists in solo practice and group practice.

I love editing, even more so than writing. It’s where I shine the most. I’m such a nerd about it that I even do it in my spare time, editing letters of recommendation and test questions for my wife, a biology professor.

I find it incredibly rewarding to turn a piece of mediocre writing into something extraordinary. It feels like the difference between crawling and sprinting.

If your writing is clear and compelling, there’s a good chance that clients will see you as the expert that you are and bang down your door to work with you.

Here’s what I can help with:

  • Your website content
  • Therapist profiles on sites like Psychology Today and Good Therapy
  • Google My Business profile

No matter the assignment, I try as best as possible to get a sense of your voice and edit your work accordingly. I want the words to appear as if they’re coming directly from you, so in that way I work as your ghostwriter.

In addition to basic copyediting — help with punctuation, grammar, syntax and spelling errors — I also provide content editing, which can give greater clarity and structure to your writing.

I can also help with search engine optimization (SEO) and your website’s Google ranking. I understand what Google looks for, so I tailor my language accordingly. Obviously, the higher you rank with Google, the undisputed search engine leader, the easier it is for clients to find you.

Another excellent way for you to improve your Google ranking is to work with Joe Bavonese, Ph.D., psychotherapy’s leading expert on Internet marketing. Here’s a link to his site, which is also featured on my “Recommended Services” page: https://www.uncommonpractices.com/

There are a few problems that I consistently see when reviewing therapists’ websites.

One is a focus on the therapist rather than the client. Clients mostly want to know if you can help them with their problem, not about where you went to school or all the trainings you’ve done. Another problem is an abundance of therapy jargon; it’s important that therapists speak in language everyone understands. Finally, therapists content is sometimes so dry as to be sleep-inducing, or at least make you wonder what you were doing on the site in the first place.

about

As someone who has written for several newspapers and magazines, I understand how to create compelling content.

Also, I’m familiar with a variety of proven marketing principles that help get readers to notice your unique offerings and take action.

In 2018-19, I spent 18 months working with Scott Hallman, one of this country’s leading marketing experts. (www.scotthallman.com) Scott is a #1 bestselling author and business coach, who has helped many high-profile clients, including Tony Robbins.

I’ve incorporated many of Scott’s marketing ideas into my copyediting. Although working with Scott was a significant financial investment, it was also one of the best business decisions I ever made.

Since I started working with Scott, my therapy practice has grown more than 40%. His teachings have set me up for even greater growth in the future.
